What do I need to do?

If you are planning to retire, you will need to let your line manager know and make sure you complete any forms that are given to you.  We will not be able to process your retirement until we have been given all details of your final pay by your employer's payroll department, which may be after you have been paid by your employer for the last time.  Once we have been given this information we will send you a letter with a form to complete. These will ask you for the following information:

  • bank details
  • details of any other pensions you may have
  • if you have an in-house AVC, what you wish to do with the fund
  • if you want to exchange some of your annual pension for a lump sum amount
  • if you have not already done so, you will need to send your passport or driving licence to Bedfordshire Pension Fund.

We will need to receive all this information before any pension payments can be made.

It is the intention of Bedfordshire Pension Fund to process your retirement within 10 working days of receipt of all relevant documentation and decisions relating to your retirement, following your retirement date.

A covering letter will be sent to your home address, enclosing further details regarding your pension.  Payment of any lump sum retirement grant due will be made directly to your bank account.

Your monthly pension will be paid into your bank account on the last Thursday of each month.

Your benefits are secured and payment is made from the Bedfordshire Pension Fund
