What do I need to do?

If you are planning to retire, you will need to inform your line manager of your intention to retire, and ensure you complete any forms that are given to you.  We are not able to process your retirement unil we receive details of your final pay from your payroll provider, which may be after you have received your final salary payment.  After your payroll provider has sent us details of your final pay we will write to you with some forms to complete.  These will ask you for the following information:

  • bank details
  • details of any other pensions you may have
  • if you have an in-house AVC you will need to decide before retirement what you wish to do with the fund
  • if you are interested in receiving up to 25% of the capital value of your pension benefits as a tax free lump sum
  • if you have not already done so, you will need to ensure your birth certificate or passport is sent to Bedfordshire Pension Fund.  If you send documents by recorded delivery they will be returned in that manner.

We will need to receive all this information before any pension payments can be made.

It is the intention of Bedfordshire Pension Fund to process your retirement within 10 working days of receipt of all relevant documentation and decisions relating to your retirement, following your retirement date.

A covering letter will be sent to your home address, enclosing further details regarding your pension.  Payment of any lump sum retirement grant due will be made directly to your bank account.

Your monthly pension will be paid into your bank account on the last Thursday of each month.

Your benefits are secured and payment is made from the Bedfordshire Pension Fund
