Do I have deferred benefits?

If you paid into the Bedfordshire Local Government Pension Scheme for a certain length of time but stopped paying in before your retirement age (either because you left your job or opted out of the scheme) then you may have a deferred benefit with Bedfordshire Pension Fund.   You may have a deferred benefit if:

  • You left the scheme after 1 April 2014 with at least 2 years' membership
  • You left the scheme between 1 April 2004 and 31 March 2014 with at least 3 months' membership (or had transferred other pension benefits into the LGPS).
  • You left the scheme between 6 April 1988 and 31 March 2004, with at least 2 years' membership (or had transferred other pension benefits into the LGPS).
  • You left the scheme before 6 April 1988, with at least 5 years' membership.

If you left the scheme and were not entitled to a deferred benefit then you may be able to claim a refund of your contributions if you have not already done so.

You will not have any deferred benefits with Bedfordshire Pension Fund if you transferred your LGPS pension to another pension provider.

If you don't know if you have deferred benefits with Bedfordshire Pension Fund, you can ask us to investigate by completing our pension tracing form.
